I got assigned to the this beautiful ship in December 1970 afer a tour in Vietnam on the Mekong Delta with brown river forces. The King was heaven after that. I was on her sister the USS Luce DLG7 in '68 and part of '69. The King was a happier and more squared away ship. Great crew. I knew SK2 Winters who has made a guestbook entry and last saw him on the King on about 20 November 1971 when they choppered me off the fantail pad for a trip home via USS Enterprise and Clark AFB. After an eventful trip home I returned to school at UCLA. I eventually went to law school and am now a Superior Court Judge in California. The old girl was a great ship, with a superb crew, and named after the legendary Admiral, Ernest J, King. My best memories are of liberty in Yokosuka and Sasebo. Subic was a different story with sea-stories and the ever dangerous Olongapo. To old shipmates - I salute you!
