Call For Volunteers - USS King Association Media Coordinator

   Common themes in discussions among the Board of Directors is increasing membership and reunion attendance. While we, as well as many of you, have been aware of the Association for some time, you may be surprised to hear how often we run across shipmates who never knew there was a King Association. In an effort to continue to contact shipmates and increase awareness of the Association, we have decided to create the staff position of Media Coordinator. Here is a description of that position:


The Media Coordinator, established as a Staff Position  during the first meeting of the 2008 - 2009 Board of Directors, shall perform the following duties:

1.   To become actively involved with electronic and print media for applicable veterans organizations.
2.   Continually seek out and make contact with service members who served aboard the USS King through the applicable electronic and print media.
3.   Ensure updated reunion and contact information is made available to the applicable electronic and print media.

The media coordinator shall fall under the direction of the Communications Director. Membership and subscriptions to applicable organizations shall be paid for by the Association upon approval of the Board of Directors.

The Media Coordinator will maintain an open line of communications with the Membership Director so that any potential new member information may be acted upon by the Membership Director.

The Media Coordinator will maintain an open line of communications with the Administration Director so that any changes in shipmate information may be added to the database by the Membership Director or the Database Administrator.

The Media Coordinator will maintain an open line of communications with the Reunion Director so that reunion information can be kept current.

The position of Media Coordinator may be filled by any Member in good standing upon approval of the Board of Directors.


   For those of us who have been online for some time, we have found that there is no shortage of Veteran's groups out there. We need a volunteer who is willing to contact these websites and maintain an internet presence on behalf of the King Association. We also need someone who can contact physical groups, such as local VFW's, American Legion Posts, and various print media outlets in an attempt to reach all of our King shipmates. We hope that one of you can step forward and help us out by filling this position!
