    I will never forget the events of Feb7,1980. HT2 Bilicek was originally scheduled to have the 8-12 SS watch. At quarters they came down and and switched us so that he could go out and clean up the firefighting gear thaat was scattered all over the deck. I was down in the Aft Gen Room on the second round of the watch when the ship took a heavy roll to starboard, then almost immediately they called " Man Overboard "
    I saw HT1 Callicoat helping BM2 Irby to Sickbay. I got down to the shop, and everyone started making their way in. I remember the empty feeling when I realized that Rick was one of the ones who went overboard. Later I helped take Sam out to the Fantail to be flown to the hospital.

i was just getting off watch. then the alarm came over the 1mc. we went to cic to begin the search. we were on station all day long.negtive find. i knew all three men. it was the saddest day i spend abroad the king. we became a band of brothers. every time we were in rough weather. i thought of those men. Cry

My most vivid memory was when we lost the 4 guys over board off Cape Hatteras, I am in marine towing and salvage and when I'm alone on my boat at nite when the weather is bad I think of them often and what it must have been like.
