I spent my first night aboard on the Mid-watch Forward Fireroom. We left Yokosuka and steamed straight into a Typhoon. A little later after barfing my head off, I served as Compartment Cleaner, a short time in the Galley, then serving in the Chief's Mess, kind of working my up to having the priveldge of getting dirty in the fireroom. At least the Chief's had great coffee, and we knew how to get our hands on provisions from the store room, especially when that storeroom was beneath our compartment.
